First-time candidate Frank Tomaszowski, a local electrical contractor and father of five, has taken Assembly Seat B from incumbent Shaun Tacke.
Poll results showed Tomaszowski ahead throughout the night. By the end of it all, Tomaszowski was victorious by 47 percent with 1,143 more votes than his closest competition, Shaun Tacke, making Tomaszowski the new Borough Seat B assemblyman.
Assemblyman-elect Tomaszowsk, 47, attended Lathrop High School, is a UAF alumni and owns and operates two local businesses. Fairbanks is his hometown, where he met his wife and has raised his five boys.
Tomaszowski a local contractor and operator of his own birch syrup company, ran on a stance of diversifying the local economy through encouraging more manufacturing, mining, agriculture. In regards to zoning and planning issues, he’d like to see more private property to be accessible to the public.
“I love my community, I’ve been in Fairbanks for 40 years and I’ve raised 5 kids here, and I’m raising five kids here, this community has been a blessing to me, I come from a place of gratitude to call Fairbanks my home, and I want to be able to serve the community better by the opportunity to serve on the borough assembly,” said Tomaszewski.
Shaun Tacke, the previous Seat B Assemblyman, was behind his successor in the polls all night with a 38 polling percentage. Tacke the CFO of Good Titrations, a Cannabis production and distribution company. Born and raised in Fairbanks and the father of two sons, he has a bachelor’s in accounting along with a master’s in capital markets, both from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
“I’m running so I can bring a reasoned approach to all things that come across the assembly,” said Tacke. “I’ve been doing it for three years and I want to continue with the same effort and direction that we’re going in, I want to see the climate action task force, see it come to completion to actually have it produce some reports and ideas on ways that we can help improve our climate in our community,”
Frank Tomaszowski will be serving his community as the new Seat B Assemblyman-elect for the standard three year term.
